Summer Home Maintenance Tips

Here is a list of household maintenance that is often overlooked in keeping a home in shape. Place them on your catalog for the New Year and make them a part of your home routine.

1. Scythe your own lawn. This is one of the prime summer chores in yard maintenance but the best way to save money is to do it yourself instead of paying a neighborhood kid. Having someone else mow your lawn may save you time but you are paying high price for the luxury.

2. Fertilize your own lawn. The first thing you will need to do is head to a local home improvement store and purchase a spreader, fertilizer or a weed and feed fertilizer, and a bug killer if needed. Spread on yard a couple of time during the summer for a green healthy yard.

3. Plant and maintain your own flower beds. You don’t need a horticultural degree to take care of your landscaping. Your local nursery will help you choose flowers for your type of soil and light condition. Weeding you flower beds is a little time consuming but very rewarding. If you don’t want to weed as much you can spread a product called PREEN on your beds and it will not let the weed seed germinate. It also stunts the growth of weeds that do grow which makes them very easy to remove.

4. Coat your house yourself. If you have a house that needs to be stained or painted every few years doing it your self will save thousands of dollars.

5. Re-roof your own house. If you have a roof that isn’t too steep re roofing your own roof will save thousands. Roofing is a big job and is best done with a couple of friends but can be done by the average home owner.
